Lucky winners take home special gift packages at bridal fair

Dusty Johnson of Cross Lanes is on a winning streak. Not only did she take home the $1,000 prize package at the ninth annual Bridal, Prom and Special Occasions Fair Saturday at Tamarack, the lucky bride-to-be won a $250 gift certificate from one of the vendors, a $300 prize package during the Battle of the Brides and free wedding photography. "I really didn't expect to win the grand prize because I've been so lucky already," Johnson said. She and David Hurley of Chesapeake, Ohio, will be married Sept. 13 in Sissonville.Laura Diem of Beckley took home the $500 grand prize. "I was really surprised," she said. "This has been a really fun day. I've had a good time, and I enjoyed visiting all the booths." She and Russ Bond of Crab Orchard will be married June 21 in Beckley.Their prizes were provided by Party King Rentals and Sales, Lite Side Cakes and Catering and All Seasons Floral and Tuxedos.Chosen through a drawing from the 160 brides who attended the Bridal Brunch, these lucky winners were chosen at the end of the Battle of the Brides.Each year, local sponsors plan and provide the one-stop shopping event that brings together photographers, caterers, DJs, florists, resort representatives, limo services, fashion retailers and just about anyone else who provides services for special occasions.
